The Initiation For Saptannoyi: The 2nd Issue

15th of May, 2014:

Saptannoyi's first issue was not a huge success or a huge disappointment. In fact, Saptannoyi had made a name among a fraction the most fervid readers of Bengali Literature. Its first issue was hastened a bit but never quite lacked the quality of expression; as some critics have pointed out. Since February 2014, the Editorial Board members for the first issue were busy to send the complimentary copies to its respective authors via book-posts. That process was completed in March. After a lay-off for a month or so, it is the time to look forward to the 2nd issue which is tentatively set to be published in early 2015. Indeed, to get published in the domain of little magazines was an achievement; but to continue this passion beyond the first issue would be a challenge; both artistically and economically. However, Saptannoyi is determined not to be manacled in the sole issue that has been published, it wants to make a name for itself and be available to a wider group of readers. The Editorial Board-I members would tentatively schedule an important meeting to discuss about the future of the magazine and there is no reason that Saptannoyi's publication would be discontinued. The official e-mail saptannoyi@gmail.com is always available for online submissions and constructive criticism by the authors, critics and readers. The work for the future would be initiated very shortly.

Saptannoyi's Response to Its Contributors

Saptannoyi magazine would have never seen daylight without the people who generously contributed with poems, articles, stories, drawings and more in its maiden publication. After its maiden exposure to International Kolkata Book Fair 2014, Saptannoyi is trying to gather opinions and responses from its authors and readers. All of the authors are extremely valuable to the magazine but some deserve special mention for their never ending enthusiasm: Mr. S. Banerjee, Mrs. M. Datta, Mrs. Soma Mazumder and more. Saptannoyi magazine has adopted a policy to provide complimentary copies to its authors including those who live outside Barrackpore. As of now, almost all of the authors have received their complimentary copies. The assistant secretary of this magazine's editorial board, Mr. S. Bhattacharya made the book posts with cover letters. Now, with a very positive response from its authors and readers, Saptannoyi is looking forward to expand its literary podium to reach out to more people out beyond its geographical location. The official e-mail address: saptannoyi@gmail.com is always available to contact, send queries, send works and more. Progress reports are regularly being issued and meeting are being held to discuss about the maximization of contributor-magazine interaction to enrich the 2nd publication which is tentatively set to occur in January 2015, preferably at any book fair including the International Kolkata Book Fair 2015.

Saptannoyi After The International Kolkata Book Fair 2014

Saptannoyi was up for sale at the International Kolkata Book Fair 2014 from the 2nd to 9th February 2014 at the Little Magazine Pavilion Stall No. 16. However, due to some unavoidable circumstances, availability related difficulties and lack of personnel; it was not directly displayed at the stall for the last five days! However, if someone could name the magazine at the stall, then he/she would get it from the storage below the table! The Editorial Board members (or the publishers) of the magazine are absolutely distraught at this lackadaisical show made by the printing press at their very stall. The printing press was entitled to display the magazine at their stall along with their other products (printed or published) but their effort was futile. As a result, the magazine did not do quite well in its maiden international exposure. But one good event is that a "Sangbad Pratidin" representative collected the magazine and eventually a review of the magazine was published at the daily newspaper on the 9th of February! They came to take an interview of the Chief Editor Mr. S. Banerjee at the stall, but he was unavailable at that time. It is essentially an achievement for the magazine and the enthusiasts of it. The present editorial board will take the positives out of it and carry on!

International Kolkata Book Fair: Saptannoyi Magazine

Saptannoyi has overtaken much of its hurdles to get published in the International Kolkata Book Fair. It was officially released on the 29th January, 2014 and made its Book Fair debut on the 30th January 2014. However, the press had made a gross mistake in the Bengali spelling o the magazine's name in the cover and it had to be withdrawn immediately! The copies were corrected and finally published on 2nd February 2014. It was made available at the Little Magazine Pavilion Stall No. 16 (Bhashalipi). On its first day up for sale, Saptannoyi was able to make a good impact on the inquisitive minds passing by and sold a few copies of it. About 50% of the total printed copies were taken to the Book Fair. It is to be seen how this little magazine makes its way to define its presence in the domain of little magazines. Saptannoyi's first issue is composed of quality works and it would continue to strive to get the most fervid expressions of our artistic, scientific and creative endeavours published and preserved very carefully. Here are a few photos from the 2nd February, 2014:

The Vision of Saptannoyi Magazine

Saptannoyi is a literary serial publication, with the characteristics of a "little magazine", awaiting its maiden publication from Kolkata. Like any other quality "little magazine", Saptannoyi is interested in giving new and young writers a chance to showcase their flair in a comparatively large podium. However, the magazine does not discriminate against experienced and established authors. Its very first issue is iterated carefully after sorting out the better lot of the received submissions. Saptannoyi's Editorial Board ensures that the submissions sent through the e-mail are treated as seriously as the hard copies. In its first issue, it would also publish drawings from new artists.

Saptannoyi's Vision:

1. To promote an elegant sense of culture, literary flair and creativity amongst the people of West Bengal and beyond its geographical boundary.
2. To constantly endeavor to reach out to aid the new and struggling authors to showcase their flair at a larger podium.
3. To publish quality materials that contain the most fervid expressions of a human being in a bona fide manner. Also, to publish writing(s) that are socially, culturally and historically important to the present context.
4. To maintain harmony between English and Bengali works and publish them simultaneously within the two covers.
5. To strive in order to not make it some misleading propaganda based budget publication compromising the quality. Saptannoyi, at its best, is a publication made to reach out to the readers at a low cost. The publication is firmly against promoting certain names in a prejudicial manner.
6. To collect quality drawings from the talented and bright artists in the arc of its reach and preserve their skillful works in form of digital copies.
7. To never stop its constant endeavor to reach out and communicate with its readers, authors and enthusiasts over various topics.

Saptannoyi: The Beginning

It all started with a simple idea to unfurl the creativity of human nature. Two people initiated the project in a city called Barrackpore. The month was June 2013. They thought of coming up with an annual publication, something that would publish creative writings and sketches and ultimately in August they came up with a project to start up a magazine. It took an extensive period of discussion about what would its contents be and what would be its name and other things related to it. On that day a memorandum was issued.

It took a couple of days to finalize the name of the magazine and address related queries. A further memorandum was issued on the 11th of August.

A month's work followed that memorandum and a provisional editorial board was tabulated. Members started to collect works from different authors and a few meetings were organized to address the proceedings. Then the hunt for a suitable printing press started. Other members were lackadaisical to enquire of the availability and interest of the printing presses in the city. Mr. S. Bhattacharya got in contact with an interested printing press. A memorandum right away followed that up.

The press was finalized soon and the founding members agreed to make Mr. S. Banerjee the Chief Editor instead of Mr. S. Bhattacharya citing the experience of the former in the field. A Facebook page of the magazine was made soon. One month later a memorandum addressed the progress.

Further works followed it, memorandums were issued, progress reports were printed to keep track of the overall procedure in a professional manner and a database to keep a track of the fund(s) of the magazine was built up. The process leading to the publication was running smoothly and a Facebook promotion exposed the name of the magazine to more people. The printing press Bhashalipi was finally set to publish the magazine in late December or early January.

Thus, Saptannoyi entered the domain of little magazines and was marked as a literary serial publication.
